Maxim-Ross.com: Great Wall

My six-month stay in Beijing was an unforgettable experience, filled with a mix of work, culture, and adventure. I was there supporting Nortel Networks in their collaboration with CMCC’s mobile phone network, which gave me a firsthand look at the rapidly expanding telecom infrastructure in China.

During my time off, I explored the city’s bustling streets, modern skyscrapers, and historic sites, capturing snapshots of everyday life. The city’s subway, streets packed with bicycles, and lively markets all showcased the vibrant energy of Beijing.

From neon-lit night scenes to sprawling highways and lush green parks, the city’s contrast between tradition and modernity was striking. One of the highlights was simply walking through the urban landscape, taking in everything from massive shopping complexes to local food stalls.

Amidst the work, I also had some fantastic moments of fun and celebration. I was lucky enough to participate in a Fourth of July event at the American Embassy, where expatriates gathered to enjoy a taste of home with patriotic festivities.

Another unforgettable moment was the water gun fight, which turned into a lively and refreshing way to escape the summer heat. The images capture a city full of movement—whether it was the daily commute on the subway, the hustle of commercial streets, or the peaceful moments in Beijing’s well-kept parks.

Every corner of Beijing had something new to offer, making my time there a blend of professional growth and cultural discovery.

Great Wall

Visiting the Great Wall was an unforgettable experience, with breathtaking views and a deep sense of history. Walking its steep pathways, I was amazed by the sheer scale stretching across the green mountains. The photos capture misty hills, rugged watchtowers, and packed stone walkways. Despite the haze, the views were stunning, and every climb was worth it.

Seeing the Wall up close made me appreciate its craftsmanship. Some sections were well-preserved, while others blended into the landscape. The Chinese flags and lanterns at the entrance set a welcoming tone before the steep ascent. Reaching the higher points, I marveled at the Wall’s endless path, making it one of my most memorable moments in China.

Fishing

On the outskirts of Beijing, I visited a small lake where locals fished under colorful umbrellas, creating a relaxed and lively scene. I joined in, catching a fish myself, while others cleaned their catches by the water.

Nearby, an old stone bridge with intricately carved lion statues added a historical touch, contrasting with the bustling fishing area. A small market sold snacks and souvenirs, making the trip a perfect mix of local culture and outdoor relaxation.

HangZhou Xi Lake

My trip to Hangzhou was a mix of work and exploration. I spent time training customer engineers, getting an inside look at their operations while working alongside local professionals.

The city had a mix of modern and traditional elements, with busy streets, industrial areas, and peaceful temples. One of the highlights was being driven around in an old black government car, complete with red lights and a siren, which made for an interesting ride through the city’s streets.

On my day off, I visited the beautiful Xi Lake, a serene escape from the urban hustle. The misty waters, traditional pavilions, and lotus-filled ponds created a peaceful atmosphere.

I walked along scenic pathways, crossed ancient stone bridges, and saw locals enjoying the tranquil surroundings. The trip blended cultural experiences with stunning natural beauty, making my time in Hangzhou both
